Your life moves forward. Let your money move with it.

Start with a question.

What could your starting capital become? Explore two assumptions.

What drives value?

Interest, profits or price movements: every return has a different mechanism.

Bonds

Where returns come from
Coupons and price changes; credit quality and interest rates determine pricing.
What reduces the return
Missed payments, a high purchase price and dealing costs can reduce the return; the coupon alone is not the yield.
Your return question
What is the yield at the price I would actually pay?

How accessible is your capital?

Tradable does not mean stable in value. A fixed term can restrict access.

Bonds

How you access your money
Before maturity, access usually means finding a buyer on the secondary market.
What complicates an exit
The available price may be below your purchase price; thin trading and dealing costs can make an exit harder.
Your access question
Could I wait until maturity if selling now meant a loss?

How much time can you allow?

Short-term reserves and long-term ownership need different room to manoeuvre.

Bonds

What sets the time frame
Match the bond’s maturity and payment dates to when you expect to need the money.
What time does not solve
Holding to maturity does not remove default or inflation risk; early repayment by the issuer can change the plan.
Your timing question
Does the repayment date fit my planned spending?
Concept in detail

A matter of balance.

Defensive

More bonds and liquidity, fewer equities. A starting point for discussing a defensive approach; around 3–5 years or more. Losses remain possible.

20% Equities · 60% Bonds · 10% Real assets · 10% Cash

Balanced

Equities and bonds share the leading role. For medium to longer-term goals; around 5–10 years or more. Both asset classes can fall together.

50% Equities · 30% Bonds · 15% Real assets · 5% Cash

Growth

Equities drive the outcome. For long-term goals; typically 10 years or longer. Substantial losses and lengthy recoveries are possible.

80% Equities · 10% Bonds · 5% Real assets · 5% Cash

Three hypothetical allocations show how portfolio priorities can shift.

What if?

Time and regular contributions make a difference. Compare assumptions.

Before you decide

Four questions that matter more than the next price movement.

What does diversification mean?

Many holdings do not necessarily mean many independent risks. Look for shared sectors, currencies and sensitivity to interest rates. Equities and bonds may fall together in a crisis. Rebalancing restores target weights but may incur costs and taxes.

How long can you wait?

Patience is a process, not a guarantee. Keep foreseeable spending outside volatile investments. Decide in advance when and why to review the portfolio. A long horizon is not a reason to ignore a weakening investment case.

Which goal comes first?

Separate emergency reserves, planned spending and long-term goals. Each goal needs an amount, a date and flexibility. Your capacity for loss differs from your willingness to take it. When life changes, the plan can change too.

Who holds the money?

Before deciding, check the custodian, ownership rights, safekeeping, total costs and possible conflicts of interest. Ask about commissions and ongoing remuneration. A register entry is not a product endorsement and does not replace reviewing the contractual documents.
